Holler Discipleship

History

The Discipleship House is a huge aspect of the overall plan of Holler Ministries. The Ministry was founded in 2005 when God laid in on the Rhodes’ heart to love God and people through camp ministry. Towards the end of 2007 opportunities arose to acquire a house adjacent to the Holler. There was so doubt this would be a great place for college aged young people to come share their lives with us and to grow in their faith. By February 2008 we had our good friends Ben and Brooke Dalton move in as the first couple of House Disciplers. This includes accommodations for up to 4 young people who need a safe place to live, experience community, and grow in their faith.

Location

The Discipleship House is located conveniently between Asheville and Hendersonville NC, 15 minutes from Fletcher (groceries, gas, Target, Walmart, airport, etc.). The house resides on the campus of Holler Ministries which boasts a mission’s camp, family community and farm. The Holler is located in a low traffic, beautiful valley featuring 75 acres of forest, fields and farm. On campus there are 3 other family houses, 2 barns, a pond and camp facilities. Many visitors fall in love with the surrounding beauty that includes many quiet and secluded places and neighboring 400 acres that features hiking trails, a lake, a waterfall and lots of spectacular views.

The House

The House is warm and inviting nestled on top of a small ridge surrounded by classic North Carolina forest. Residents are sure to enjoy the large deck below an opening in the woods. Visitors comment on the peace and quiet they sense during their stay. There are 2 floors in the house. The lower floor includes a 1 car garage, laundry room, recreation area and 2 bedrooms with a half bath. The upper level serves as the main living area that features 3 bedroom, 2 bathrooms and open kitchen/dining area and a large living room conducive for Bible studies, worship, group discussions and building community.

Goals

Community: Experience genuine Christian community modeled after the new testament example and learn how to reproduce it wherever you go.

Discipleship: We offer you a place to be discipled and disciple. There will be two, live-in disciplers and several others on campus who are eager to invest in a young person's life with grace, truth and one-on-one attention.

Service: There will be ample opportunities to “live out the word” locally, regionally and even internationally with mission opportunities through Holler Ministries. While residing on campus you will learn about different service opportunities and understand the abounding mission opportunities where ever you may find yourself next

Skill Development: You’ll gain experience working with others in a community setting, meal preparation, teaching, leading, maintenance, event planning and group coordination.

Internships: Should you choose to work off campus or intern for Holler Ministries your options may include any or all of the following: office management, recruiting, marketing, creative writing/design, web work, logistics, outdoor leadership, maintenance, construction, site planning, and program development.

Preparation: This is a time of grounding and rooting in God’s word. It’s a time to explore your faith and discover God’s plan for our lives. Students should walk away well equipped for whatever adventures lay ahead.
